Student Career Days

Students and Educators -

If you missed Student Career Days 2009, which took place NOVEMBER 6 & 7, 2009 in Dallas, Texas, then you missed out! Presented by Texas Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers, Student Career Days was comprised of two days of seminars, panel discussions, vendor table-top displays, portfolio reviews, a competition and prizes  for students and educators.

Friday started with a bang. Penny Bonda, FASID, LEED AP, one of the nation’s leading experts in sustainable design and regular contributor to Interior Design magazine) presented a CEPH entitled, “The Green Materials Maze.” Attendees then learned how technology impacts the environment in the manufacturing and labeling of green and sustainable products. After a full morning, everyone enjoyed a catered lunch and interactive presentation with Certified Reality Therapist, Cathie Looney. In the afternoon, discussions occurred regarding how culture impacts the work place and client relations, while students learned the dos and don’ts of interfacing with various cultures. Lastly, vendors, manufactures, and artisans set up table-top displays in the display area, and top-name designers from residential, health care, hospitality, institutional, and multi-family sectors reviewed portfolios.

Saturday, students explored various career paths within the design industry, explored how technology, the environment and culture impacts color, enjoyed a catered lunch, and cheered their friends on to victory as the Texas Chapter announced the results (see below) of the Student Design Scholarship Competition and Student Design Competition.
